Pelar, hoping for adventure with stories of heroes in his heart joins the army. Disillusioned he must rise to find the strength to save an ungrateful world from magics thought long dead.
Sarene, blaming the Empire for her father’s death seeks the power to enact her revenge. But the path she takes is far darker than she could ever have expected. Will she control it, or will it control her?

There are no heroes in war, only survivors.
The once-great Empire of Kalux, the Kingdom of Light, is a shadow of its former glory. The land is wracked by drought and the King’s apparent greed guts the country further. The people are suffering while the nobles line their pockets.
The kingdoms to the west are squirming and pockets of rebellion are forming. In the east, the great warlord Wulfden has united the desert tribes and looks to begin his march against the Empire.
With troops amassing on the border the King raises the fyrds, signing up young and old men alike, and conscripting soldiers from the rebellious provinces. But the battle never comes.
This story follows the rise and fall of Pelar and Sarene. As they become embroiled in rebellion and are led through the swirling vortex of fate to wield old powers that will bring an empire to its knees.
